Fall Festival 2021

In what is quickly becoming an annual event, the Allen Fall Festival will be held next Saturday, November 6 , in downtown Allen. The block of West Broadway in front of The Advocate will be closed to traffic from 5:00 to 8:00 pm so area residents can browse the booths and vendors.

Elizabeth Sue Cox, 74, peacefully passed away at her home in Ada, Oklahoma on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. Elizabeth was the wife of Ron Cox. They shared 53 years of joyous and loving marriage.

Service held for Patsy McDaniel

Private family graveside services were held Friday, October 22 , at Cedar Grove Cemetery for Patsy McDaniel, her brother, Pastor Tommy Chaffin officiated. A public celebration of life will be held at a later date.

5th Sunday Meeting

The Community Church of Gerty (formerly the United Methodist) will be observing the 5 Sunday with a special speaker, Bro. Jack Hunter, and special singing, followed by lunch (not on the ground but in the fellowship hall). We have some good cooks so come and join in a morning of worship, lunch and fellowship.

One Pharmacist’s View

My mother sometimes got onto me for daydreaming so much. I had a teacher or two over at Stonewall that agreed with her too. She always admonished me to quit my daydreaming. As though one could. Like most people I think I was meant to travel. Go places. Someplace where they speak different languages. Dress funny. Eat weird foods. Places so far away you might need to get on an airplane or a ship to get there. But to get on an airplane means going through x-rays, being patted down. Getting a passport. Well sure. Pat and I, being the forever optimists, renewed our passports some time back. I guess we did want to be squeezed into an uncomfortable seat and be hurtled at speeds at nearly the speed of sound to one of these strange places.
