Service held for Jean Wright

Rettia “Jean” Wright went to be with the Lord, June 30, 2021. She was born June 7, 1931 to David A. and Rettia Burris.

Jean’s family described her as a loving, wonderful wife, mother, and missionary. She was a very determined woman and a spitfire. Jean married the love of her life David Wright on August 19, 1952 in Allen, Oklahoma and went on to have two beautiful children. Some of her hobbies included gardening, sewing, spending time with her family, and spreading the word of God. Jean’s proudest moments in life were becoming a wife, mother, Nene, and Grand Mimi. She was so proud to watch her grandson, Rhyan, follow in the footsteps of his Granddaddy and graduate from Basic Training in the United States Air Force and continue his military career. She was also proud to watch her granddaughter, Chelli, graduate from her Granddaddy’s and mother’s alma mater, Oklahoma Baptist University and follow in the footsteps of her Granddaddy and mother to become a teacher. Jean was a member of the Campers on Missions, North American Mission Board, Lake Ministry Day Camps, and created and held Backyard Bible Schools.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, David Wright, parents David A. and Rettia Burris, Brother David A. Burris II and spouse Peggy, brother John Burris and spouse Kazia, brother Nathan Burris, brother Larry Burris, sister Ruth Ashbey and spouse W. R., and sister Irma Welch-Bridges and spouse Ken, and two unborn grandchildren.

Jean is survived by daughter Sandra Briscoe and spouse Gary of Shawnee, daughter Tammie Petros of Shawnee, her favorite spoiled dog child NL, granddaughter Chelli Briscoe, grandson Rhyan Petros and wife Krystal, great grandchildren Bryson and Brantley Petros, niece Laquita and spouse Del Johnson, sister-in-law Lois Burris, friend Shanda Cowan, and multiple other nieces, nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Pallbearers are Joe Mark Cowden, Curtis Chotkey, Chad Chotkey, Preston Gentry, Dannie Gentry, Chris Collier, Paul Needham, and Roger Paxson. Honorary Pallbearers are Del Johnson, Rhyan Petros, Bryson Petros, Brantley Petros, Benny Moore, Cody Moore, Brayden McGinnis, and Benny Floyd. Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
