Jerry grew up in Francis and Allen, Oklahoma, and graduated from Allen High School. Early in his senior year, he met the love of his life, Martha Cotton. Following an explosion caused by a gas leak, Martha was transferred to Allen High School, where fate brought the two together on a school bus. It was love at first sight. Their classmates quickly recognized the special connection between them and even predicted they were most likely to get married. Little did their classmates know that the young couple had already secretly eloped, beginning a lifelong love story that would span many wonderful years.
Together, Jerry and Martha built a beautiful and loving life while raising their two children, Julie and Michael. Family was always the most important part of Jerry’s life, and he cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren. Jerry and Martha moved to south Texas after high school to begin his career with the US Border Patrol, later moving to Tennessee to begin working as a Special Agent with the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms0. Many lifelong friends and memories were made as they moved around the country before retiring in Texas to be closer to family.
Jerry always expressed gratitude for his life and family, not only through words, but through actions. He will forever be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his faith, his deep love for his family and friends, and his enjoyment of travel and sports. He remained a loyal supporter of the Allen High School Mustangs, continuing to attend games and proudly cheering them on. He also treasured his weekly domino and chickenfoot games and the fellowship and camaraderie of gathering with friends and members of his community. These moments brought him great joy and reflected the warm, social spirit that touched so many lives.
