Gravesite Service Planned for Lola “Vermell” Yoakum

On Thursday, October 13, 2022, Lola “Vermell” Yoakum (Muse), beloved wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother passed away in Corpus Christi, Texas at 87 years of age. Vermell was born on January 2, 1935, in Allen, Oklahoma to Edgar and Carrie Gilmore Muse.

She was the third daughter of five sisters. Vermell attended school in Allen where she met the love of her life, Mack Yoakum. Shortly after graduating she and Mack married and after one year the newlyweds moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. Mack went to work for Sun Oil after the company moved its operation from Allen to

Corpus Christi. Being a wife, mother and later grandmother and greatgrandmother was her joy in life. She volunteered countless hours to her children’s school and club organizations, as well as supporting Mack in his refining and military careers. She loved spending time with her parents and sisters, family was extremely important to her.

Later in life she and Mack traveled extensively, often including her sisters on their trips. Sitting on her front porch swing for hours and enjoying the scenic views of their vacation home in Leakey, Texas brought peace and serenity to her heart. Entertaining friends and family at gatherings in Leakey gave her great happiness. Vermell was greatly loved and admired for her kindness and zest of life. Always the life of the party and forever a beautiful lady. She will be forever missed.

Vermell was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Yoakum; sisters, Lynne Pinch Kelly, Mary Alice Rochette and Emma Lou Fleming.

She is survived by her sister, Edwina Braxton; children, Mary Lynn Cazier-Wilcox (Gerald), Steven Yoakum (Grace), and Denise Mock (Timothy); seven grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. As well as numerous greatly loved nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held on November 5, 2022 at 11:00 am at Allen Cemetery in Allen, Oklahoma.
