Graveside Service held for Mary Sweat

Graveside services for Mary Maxine Sweat, 90, formerly of Lula, were 10:00 AM Monday, April 15th, at Lula Cemetery.

Mrs. Sweat passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024 in Allen. She was born September 30, 1933, in Lula, Oklahoma to Dillion Raymond and Mary Lois Gore Clifford.

She married Clovis Augusta Thompson on October 1, 1951. She prayed to God to give them children. As many know God gives us things the way He believes we need them. They adopted Debra Ann Herndon Thompson on May 31, 1960 and Ricky Lee Thompson on July 8, 1964. Just as much as the couple needed the children, the children needed them. They went on to travel with Clovis in the Army and Air Force to Madrid, Spain and Libya. Then to return to Mangum, Oklahoma and finally to Hominy, Oklahoma. Mrs. Sweat worked at the Dick Conner Correction Center as a secretary and was thought highly of in her position.

Mrs. Sweat is survived by her son, Ricky L. Thompson and his wife, Catrina, of Allen; daughter, Debbie Herndon, of Cornelius, Oregon; three brothers, John Clifford, Ronnie Clifford, and Donnie Clifford; three sisters, Marcine Brooks, Helen Leader, and Debbie Kendrick; eight grandchildren, Kristen Hall, Brooke VanOrden, Sarah Todd, Ricky A. Thompson, Billy L. Thompson, Brandi Thompson, Brandon Thompson, and LeRhonda Jessop; 10 great-grandchildren, Patience Thompson, Cetiva Gustin, Everett Hall, Isaiah VanOrden, Gracelyn VanOrden, Grayden Todd, Mya Lewis, Delilah Lewis, John Thompson, and Darren Thompson; and two great-greatgrandchildren, Orion Thompson and Korben Gustin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Clovis Thompson; second husband, Louis Hale; third husband, Bobby Joe Sweat; and brother, Dickie Clifford.

She will be loved and missed by her family. We know she is singing with the Angels in Heaven her Sweet Hallelujah Song “I’m finally home.”
