Rites held for John Moore
John Moore, 89 we think (if you know you know), passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026 in Mustang, leaving behind a lifetime of hard work, deep love, quiet strength, and a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
John spent his working life building fences — strong, straight, dependable fences that stood the test of time. With only a sixth-grade education, he may not have had the opportunity to sit in a classroom and study geometry, but he certainly understood it. He could look at a property, draw out a fence design, figure out exactly what was needed, and make it work. His knowledge came from experience, determination, and an extraordinary ability to understand how things fit together. He took great pride in his work and was highly respected in the fencing community.
His honesty, skill, incredible work ethic, and dependability earned him the respect of countless people throughout the years. For John, a handshake meant something, a promise was a promise, and if he said he would do something, you could count on him. He was tough as a boot.
John was a man who didn’t complain. He worked hard, endured much, and simply kept going. Whatever life put in front of him, he faced it with strength and determination. But underneath that toughness was one of the kindest and most generous hearts a person could have. He loved deeply. John had a way of taking care of everyone else before thinking about himself. If someone needed something, he was there. If someone was hurting, he cared. If someone needed a helping hand, he gave it without making a big deal about it. Even as he lay on his own deathbed, his thoughts weren’t centered on himself. He was worried about another family member who was also nearing the end of their life. That was John. He cared. He loved. He showed up. And he made people feel like they mattered. People remembered that he made everyone feel special and valued. They remembered his teasing, his kindness, his humor, his generosity, and his heart of gold. And perhaps the simplest words say the most: “They don’t make them like him anymore.” John was truly loved by all.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margie Sue Moore; his son, Charles Edward Moore; his grandson, Trevor Clay Smith; his brothers, Eldon, Leon, Ed, Bobby, Luther, and Melton; and his sisters, Dorothy, Minnie, Hazel, Mary Francis, and Louellen.
He is survived by his sons Dale Moore and wife Pat of Eufaula, and Kenny Moore and Sharonda of Allen; and daughter, Suzie Smith and husband Mark of Mustang. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Charlie, Robbie, Reece, Nicole, Shelby, Chad, Ashley, Zachary, and Ryan; great- grandchildren, Quincey, Quinten, Damien, Trenton, Emily, Isaiah, Aiden, Copeland, Alaska, David, Baylor, Erabella, and Alexander; great-greatgrandchildren, Rowin and Annalya; brother, Dallas; and sisters, Dixie and Rosalee.
