Service held for Paul Turpin

Posted in:

Another smiling angel was greeted at those perfect gates on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Paul Turpin was born on December 18, 1935 to Melvin and Etta Turpin in Non, Oklahoma. He was one of six boys and fi ve girls.

Paul was best known as “Doodle” to all his family. As a child he loved playing in the dirt with the doodle bugs, and continued to play in the dirt throughout his life as he was able to work with his brothers hauling sand and gravel at Turpin Brothers Sand Plant in Non.

Paul loved playing baseball in high school, and was pretty to look at out on the ballfi eld. His wife of 59 years found her one and only love at those baseball games. Married on December 5, 1959, they started their lives together. Paul and Doretta had three kids on their journey of life, Michael Paul, Brent Lee, and Kimberly Kay. There’s no other couple that could have loved their kids any more than what they have.

Until their grandkids came along at least. Kim had two boys, Michael Nash and Tyler Reid. Seventeen years ago Brent and Kim were no longer Paul and Doretta’s priority. Paul spent many, many hours holding and singing to Nash and Ty and the minute they could sit up by themselves he had them in the feed truck going to check the cows and teaching them the ins and outs of carrying on his love and very expensive hobby. He had so much love for his grandkids and taught them both so much about life, and especially his other babies.

Looking back, Paul had one of the biggest hearts to hold everybody in, him and his brothers were always there for each other within 30 minutes of a phone call when one needed help with hay or cows, and his sisters were known to spoil Paul and Ralph a lot whenever they could. The best part of being a Turpin is there is never a chance of that love running out with the brothers and sisters and all the cousins continuing to carry on the friendship and love that everyone has grown up with.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Etta Turpin; one son, Michael Paul Turpin; fi ve brothers and three sisters-in-law, James and Thelma Turpin, Leon and Murtle Turpin, Elvin and Iva Turpin, Gene Turpin, and Ralph Turpin; two sisters and four brothers-in-law, Ruth and Dale Tipton, Kathleen and Loyd Raney, Virgil Ellis, and Charlie Holland.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doretta (Condreay) Turpin; two children, Brent Lee Turpin and Kimberly Kay Streater; two grandsons, Michael Nash Streater and Tyler Reid Streater; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Shirley Ellis, Pauline and Jerry Johnson, and Margaret and Roger Levingston; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Turpin and Jimmie Nell Turpin; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 23rd , 10:30 a.m. at the Stuart Church of Christ, and Paul was laid to rest in the Holdenville Cemetery, with Chris Rampy officiating. Pallbearers were Mark Bulen, Greg Turpin, James Johnson, Gil Turpin, Ledon Turpin, Larry Tipton, Charles Tipton, and Gary Tipton.
