Service held for Margie Matthews

Margie June (Harris) Matthews, dear mom and grandma, peacefully passed on February 21, 2024, at the age of 92. Her departure leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and grit that will forever be etched in our hearts.

Born on September 2, 1931, to George and Hattie (Tidwell) Harris, Margie was the youngest of six siblings. Family was important to her, and she cherished her close-knit bond with her brother and sisters.

Margie’s life took a beautiful turn when she met Ernest Matthews, the love of her life, and they tied the knot on February 14, 1948. Margie and Ernest were married for 61 years until his passing in 2009. They built a solid family foundation, raising their two kids, Sharon (Matthews) Lewis and Gary Matthews. Margie was known for her no-nonsense attitude and her heart of gold. She worked hard and had a great work ethic, ensuring that her family had everything they needed.

What set Margie apart was her ability to make everyone feel valued. Whether you were family, friends, or strangers, Margie welcomed you with kind words and a warm smile. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, and son, Gary.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Lewis and son-in-law, Roger Jared; granddaughter, Shannon and Dave Coman; great-granddaughter, Kate Coman; grandson, Matt Lewis and his fiancée, Maddie; daughter-in-law, Sheila Matthews; granddaughter, Sheryl and Jack Goodson; greatgrandson, Chad and Keisha Goodson, Brogen, and Khloe; great-grandson, Cole and Amber Goodson, and Eden; great-grandson, Bodrey Goodson; grandson, Kanan and Tasha Matthews; greatgranddaughter, Lilly Matthews; great-grandsons, Gus and Jake Matthews and Karson Standridge.

As we mourn Margie’s passing, let’s also celebrate the wonderful woman she was and the impact she had on all of us. Services were held at Criswell Funeral Home in Ada, on Tuesday, February 27th, at 10:00 a.m. Burial followed at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Francis. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.
