Memorial Service Monday for Lucille Fogerson
Iva Lucille Fogerson of Allen, Oklahoma, formerly of Mountain Grove, Missouri, passed away Sunday morning, April 7, 2019. She was born June 26, 1924 to Grant Julian and Laura Mosley Julian at home near Green Mountain, Missouri. Lucille was the surviving twin at birth.
She attended Dewy schools for 9 years and continued her schooling at Mountain Grove High School, graduating in 1943.
Immediately after graduation, she left for Topeka, Kansas, for a government technical school to learn bookkeeping and typing. In 1943 she joined in the war effort and went to Kansas City to work at North American as a riveter making Army pilot seats and then on to work for the Navy with Pratt/Whitney and fi nally at the Quartermaster Depot. In 1966 -1969 Lucille worked as a teacher’s aide for Cabool Schools. In 1971 she started working for Cabool Livestock Auction in the office and 22 years later retired from the Mountain Grove Livestock Auction.
Lucille met Albert Austin Fogerson when he was delivering milk in 1945 and they married September 7, 1946. They lived at Maness, Missouri before buying a 160 acre farm in Douglas County in 1947. They celebrated nearly 51 years of marriage before Austin’s passing in 1997. They started their family in 1949 with a son, John Wesley, who lived 8 short hours. In the next 5 years, two daughters were born, Janice and Nancy Jo.
Lucille and Austin immersed themselves in the community and Pleasant Home Free Will Baptist Church. She was involved in the Better Homemaker’s Extension Club, a leader in the Up’n’Att 4-H Club teaching knitting among other classes, JOY’s group, Vacation Bible Schools, Women’s Auxiliary among many manymore. She enjoyed gardening and canning/freezing vegetables for family enjoyment and sharing with neighbors and family. Her true love were her flower gardens of iris’, of which she was so proud.
She welcomed with open arms pastor’s and their families, missionaries, friends of the girls, neighbors, and family into her home and to sit at her table where there was always an abundance of food and love. She was known as Granny to not only her own grandchildren but to everyone she met! She never had idle hands for at the end of the day she was always crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, or sewing. Quilting became a gift of love and joy to many family and friends as she shared her gift of quilting.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Laura Julian; her husband Albert Austin Fogerson; a son John Wesley; her brothers Leavon Julian and Farris Julian; and her sisters Ethel Lawler and Lois Musser.
Lucille is survived by her daughters Janice Drake and husband Buddy of Allen, Oklahoma and Nancy Jo Draper of Norman, Oklahoma; grandchildren Autumn Drake of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Misty (Drake) Wooldridge and husband Corey of Inola, Oklahoma, Amy (Draper) Chaney and husband Michael of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Jamie Draper of Tom, Oklahoma, and Grant Draper of Seattle, Washington; and great-grandchildren Jacob Chaney and wife Bethanie of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Dalton Chaney of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Taylor (Wooldridge) Lewis and husband Gabe of Claremore, Oklahoma, Drake Wooldridge of Inola, Oklahoma, and Lillie Draper of Tom, Oklahoma. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law Doris Mason and Barbara Millham, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive Oklahoma friends and family on Saturday, April 13th , from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Richmond Avenue Free Will Baptist Church in Allen, Oklahoma.
Memorial services will be held at the Pleasant Home Free Will Baptist Church south of Mountain Grove, Missouri on Monday, April 15th , at 2:00 pm with interment following at the Penner Cemetery, Douglas County. A time for family and friends visitation will be from 12:30 pm until service time before the service at the church.
