Service held for Johnnie Nix

Johnnie Lee Nix went home to our Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the age of 74. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.

Johnnie was born to C.B. Lee Nix and Elizabeth Ann Crofford on September 27, 1951 in Ada, Oklahoma. He married Laura Marie Wilbourn on October 9, 1972. They were married for 49 years when Laura passed on February 6, 2021.

Johnnie enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on August 28, 1969. He served in Vietnam from January to April 1971. He was awarded the Meritorious Mast twice, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal with device, and the Rifle Sharpshooter. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant on July 17, 1975.

After being discharged, he received an education in heat & air, leading him to a manager position at Sears in 1981. A chance meeting with Mr. Bob Moore led him to becoming a service consultant at Bob Moore Cadillac in Oklahoma City. Working his way up to partner then owner. He and his family relocated to McAlester in June 1999, where he established Nix Auto Center. He happily retired in December 2021 after 40 years devoted to the automobile industry.

During retirement, he enjoyed fishing and spending long awaited time with his daughters and grandchildren. He loved being involved in their lives and bragging about them to anyone who would listen. He will be greatly missed, and please remember his famous slogan: “I’m Johnny Nix and I will save you money!”

He is survived by his children, Melinda Marie Nix, and Tamara Lee Nix Salyers and husband Anthony David Salyers; his grandchildren, Madalyn Lee Nix, Joshua Johnnie Nix, Caden David Salyers, Treyton Ray Salyers, Hunter Lee Salyers, and Malik Laurent; and his siblings, the late Arvie Wayne, Retta Ann Nix Hulsey, Richard Nix, Charles Nix, Donnie Nix, Tommy Nix, and Mona Nix.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4th, at Lakewood Christian Church.
