Geneva Holman Inducted into Chickasaw Hall of Fame

Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby inducted five Chickasaws into the Chickasaw Hall of Fame April 16. Inductees include former Allen resident Geneva Holman as a citizen important to the preservation of the Chickasaw language.

Allen Alumni Weekend June 19 & 20

The annual Alumni Weekend will be held, as always, on Father’s Day Weekend, June 19th and 20th. Friday night activities begin with the Street Dance at 7:30 p.m.

Gerty Day June 27th

The annual Gerty Day reunion will be held at the Gerty Community Center on Saturday, June 27. The building will be open at 9AM and a potluck lunch will be served at 12. Please bring a food of your choice to share.

Servies held for James “Eugene” Sanders

Services for James Eugene Sanders, 89, of Allen, were 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 9th, at Richmond Avenue Free Will Baptist Church in Allen; Rev. Bobby Briggs and Rev. Buddy Drake officiated. Burial followed at Allen Cemetery.

School Board Votes To Suspend Student

The Allen Board of Education voted unanimously Monday to suspend a student at Allen Public Schools. However, the name of the student, why the student was suspended and if it had anything to do with the recent hazing incident that is being investigated by authorities could not be disclosed.
