Mayhue said summer school enrollment has increased from 59 elementary students to 70 since the April board meeting.

Mayhue spoke the school’s playgrounds.

“So, the TSET grant that I told you about -- $3,000 awarded -- we decided to put in a handicap accessible swing,” she said. “So we’re having our swings extended one bay, and the swing will be added there. It can be used for many years by many different sizes of children, so we’re really excited to offer that to our kiddos.”

Mayhue also spoke about the headstart playground. She said all the pea gravel that is there will be removed, and a soft, safe surface will be installed over concrete.

The leveling of the playground is expected to remedy the water drainage issues there as well.

Chris Grimm

Grimm said the FFA banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and graduation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

He said the middle and high school testing is complete.

“That all went fairly well, considering,” Grimm said. “My big question was if we were going to get all of our virtual kids here, and I think we finished up the last one today.”

Grimm spoke about ag, and the attending of a state convention in late April.

“They were recognized as being a three-star, gold chapter on a national level, which is a pretty stinking big deal,” he said. “I bounced that off an old ag buddy of mine and he said that’s almost as good as you can do.”

Grimm said band went to a competition Saturday.

“They brought home a plaque and a trophy for superior ratings, if I recall correctly, on both accounts,” he said.

Grimm said driver’s ed begins May 17 th .

“They’ll be doing the class the first week, then they’ll carry on their driving from there through the month of June,” he said.

Grimm said there are more than two-dozen students that are signed up to take driver’s ed.

Consent Agenda

The board approved the consent agenda, which included the minutes of the April 12 regular meeting; The fiscal year 2020 - 2021 Purchase Orders and Encumbrances: General Fund numbers 212 through 253 ($192,214.77); Child Nutrition Fund numbers 48 through 50 ($6,000; Treasurer’s Report; Activity Fund Report; Temporary Appropriations for the fiscal year 2021-2022: General Fund $4,500,000; Building Fund $300,000; and Child Nutrition Fund $565,000; 2020-2021 Supplemental Appropriations: General Fund $615,614.41; Building Fund $87,565.00; Fundraiser — Girls Basketball, Football; Basketball summer camp overnight stay: HS @ Kingston, OK, June 13 – 16, 2021; JH @ Calera, OK, May 24 – 26, 2021.

Action Items

The first action item involved a vote to approve or disapprove a Resolution for Schools and Libraries Universal Services (E-Rate) for 2021-2022. This resolution authorizes filing of the Form 471 application(s) for funding year 2021-2022 and the payment of the applicant’s share upon approval of funding and receipt of services.

“We do this every year, we have to ...,” Hiatt said. “We’re changing our internet carrier from a place called Bolt to ATT. ATT came in way cheaper.”

The board approved.

The second action item involved a vote to approve or disapprove the following field trip policies from OSSBA: EFD, EFD-E1, EFD-E2, EFD-R1, EFD-R2, EFDA.

“We don’t have any field trip policy,” Hiatt said. “We don’t have to by law. Our lawyer recommended that we adopt some policy just to keep the school safe from liabilities. I mean, it sounds crazy but he said an elementary kid could climb into a cage at the zoo or something, and we’ve got to have policy to protect the school. There’s different policy in here, there’s senior trips which is the next item we’re going to vote on, there’s out of state trips. there’s overnight trips, and there are forms that we’re going to start using.”

The board approved.

Executive Session

The board entered into executive session, and, upon returning, approved contracts including summer school through the Choctaw Nation. The Choctaws pay the teachers’ salaries for the summer school.

The board accepted the retirement resignations of longtime Elementary Secretary Becky Boyd, and junior high Language Arts Teacher Linda Baber.

The board also accepted the resignations of Special Education Teacher Alexis Huffman and Cafeteria Worker, Lacey Williamson.
