A Wewoka man was injured the night of February 4th when his vehicle was struck by a second vehicle on OK-1 and County Road E1440 approximately six miles east of Allen in Hughes County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that 59-yearold Mandell Carolina was eastbound on OK-1 in a 2008 Chevrolet when a westbound 2014 Ford went left of center, first striking Carolina’s Chevrolet and then a second eastbound vehicle. The accident occurred at approximately 7:44 p.m. this past Saturday evening.

Carolina was transported by Hughes County EMS to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City with head injuries. He was admitted in stable condition.

Latoyal Oguinn, 40, Wewoka, a passenger in Carolina’s vehicle, was transported by Hughes County EMS to Mercy Hospital in Ada with external head and trunk injuries. Oguinn was treated and released.

A second passenger, 56-year-old Latricia Elbert of Wewoka, escaped injury.

The driver of the westbound 2014 Ford, Ashley Bratcher, 29, Atwood, was not injured. Two 17-yearold juvenile males of Atwood also escaped injury.

The second eastbound vehicle struck by the Ford was a 2013 Kia driven by 51-year-old Alex Moody of Savanna. Moody was not injured. The accident was investigated by OHP Trooper Bryce McCutcheon of the Hughes County Detachment of Troop D. McCutcheon was assisted at the scene by the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office, Holdenville Police Department, Atwood Fire Department, Holdenville Fire Department, and Hughes County EMS.

The OHP reported that Bratcher’s driving ability was impaired by drinking. Seat belts were not in use in Bratcher’s Ford; they were in use by all occupants of the other two vehicles. Airbags were deployed in all three vehicles.
