Wellington leaves Allen Public Schools
Allen High School Principal Tony Wellington abruptly resigned last week.
Allen Schools Interim Superintendent Jeff Hiatt said Wellington turned in his resignation, effective immediately, the morning of January 16th . Hiatt said because it is a personnel issue, he cannot comment on why Wellington resigned.
An Allen School Board special meeting took place Friday, during which the board accepted Wellington’s resignation.
Wellington had been with Allen Schools for about two-and-a-half years.
Hiatt, who was taking on the dual roll of being the elementary/junior high principal and the interim superintendent, will now act as interim high school principal until a new principal is hired.
Retired Allen Elementary School Principal Mary Pat Sappenfield has agreed to help out and will act as principal at the elementary school, but only until a new principal is hired, Hiatt said.
Hiatt said the system will be looking to hire new principals for both the elementary/junior high, and the high school. He said a discussion will most likely take place at the board’s next meeting in February.
“We’ll probably start advertising after that meeting,” Hiatt said.” We probably won’t start looking until after that board meeting. I want to talk to them and tell them what I’m looking for, so that we’re all on the same page. I’m going to do something a little bit different, I’d like to have some teacher input on it. Be real transparent, so there’s some buy in from all angles, not just me.”
