Weed, Trash, Junk and Abandoned Cars
The Town of Allen has hired a part time certified Code Enforcement Officer. His duties are to write letters of warning and if needed citations to property owners with violation of city ordinances pertaining to trash, weeds, junk and abandoned cars.
He has sent out numerous letters this week with more to come, that instruct the owner of the ordinances they are violating and the corrective actions to take. Even if the letter is not picked up we have a Certificate of Mailing that verifies the letter was mailed.
After 10 days of the mailing the property owner will receive a ticket if the property is not cleaned and will continue to get a ticket until such violation is remedied. A failure to pay the ticket or appear in our municipal court could result in a warrant.
We understand the rain has been awful and the properties with just the normal amount of grass growth should not be worried.
It should also be noted that after your first violation if it reoccurs within 6 months a citation can be written immediately without a letter warning of the violation.
Previous years we had tried sending warning letters. That approach did not result in much improvement so unfortunately we have to move to take legal action. If you disagree with the letter or citation a court date will be set to discuss the matter with the judge. No city employee can revoke a ticket as it is a legal matter to be discussed at court.
