Threads of Life
What is life? Every human being has groped with this question. Our mind is a constant whirling motion, capable of holding many thoughts at one time. Nothing is lost from the day we are born and perhaps, from the time of existence.
We grope for an understanding of life. We grope for an understanding of others; our family, our friends, our companions along the way, when in fact, when we reach an understanding of what we ourselves are, the understanding of all others is not the important thing. We find the important thing is the quietness and peace from knowing ourselves. It pervades our being. We see the peace, joy, understanding, love and potential of all things as such great gifts. As we recognize these things in others, the most important thing is just “being.” At this point, we just let others “be.”
What we really have inside ourselves can never get out into the world, except through the spoken word or writings, as in books or journals. These are thoughts put into words.
The things expressed may be in things, such as a building, invention, painting, etc. These things are ideas we leave for the world. However, what we truly are, only God can know. That is the heritage He gave, for us to know ourselves as we are, and to know the greatness within us. We project as much as we can into the world as “works.”
Sometimes, I nearly burst with the knowing, but it is seldom possible to share this knowledge, because everyone must come to this knowing through himself or herself. The beauty and greatness of the world and the people in it are almost too much to bear at times. Why is it not possible to share this part of ourselves with all others? That knowing can only come from within. So no one really knows another, yet the thread that connects every being is very thin and fragile. The knowing is there, but seldom revealed, and it cannot ever be broken.
What is life? Who are we? We are the sum total of all our experiences. As long as we have life here on earth, we have an opportunity to become the person that God created us to be.
That is the “Thread of Our Lives.”
