As the coronavirus continues to spread throughout the USA the television is filled with accounts of the illness and corresponding closing. While Allen, being a small community and fairly self-contained, residents are safer than those living in large cities however precautions and common sense must always prevail.

In an effort to keep our local residents informed on the happenings in Allen area business and churches were contacted about any changes to their services and routines.

Of most concern, the Allen Food Center reports they are having no shortages. Regular deliveries are being received even if they slightly delayed. However to assist their patrons they are accepting call-in orders and will do curb-side delivery or home deliveries within Allen city limits.

Farmers State Bank has not limited their banking services and wish to remind everyone of their drive-up service. They also remind people to be diligent with giving out their personal information as the number of phone/internet scams has increased.

The Allen Nutrition Site is continuing to serve meals to senior citizens on a curb side basis. Food in take-out containers will be brought to vehicles in the parking lot. Home delivery to shut-ins continues as normal.

The Allen Public School is looking into providing breakfast and lunches to students but at this time ask people to call 857-2417 extension 150 for more information. If no answer, please leave a message.

The Allen Health Clinic is business as usual but also encourage tele-med calls when possible.

Tim Costner at the Allen Vet Clinic is business as usual but does recommend calling for appointments if possible.

The Allen Quick Pic is doing business as usual but will take call-in orders out to vehicles in the parking lot.

The Allen Country Junction is also business as usual but want to remind everyone of their drive-thru window.

Business as usual is also on track for the Allen Pharmacy, the Allen Post Office, Rocky Top Winery with cabins still available for rent, The Advocate, Whiteheads Meat Market, and the Allen Tag Agency/ Carolyn’s Flowers & Gifts.

Currently closed are the Donut Bank, the Allen Public Library, and the lobby of the Allen City Hall. Water bills and other contact with city hall is available through the drive-up window. Prepackaged meals from the Chickasaw Nation for children ages 1-18 are available for pickup at the Library front door. Just knock or call ahead.

Also making changes are local churches. The Methodist, Bethel Free Will, Richmond Avenue Free Will, and First Baptist have all cancelled services until further notice. The Church of God of Prophecy will be open from Sundays 10:00 am to noon and 6:00 to 7:00 pm for come-and-go prayer. The Allen United Pentecostal will be holding their regular worship services. The Allen Church of Christ will be posting their information on the Allen Message Board facebook page.

Unfortunately we were unable to contact That Extra Touch gift shop and the Market Place Church for their information.

Anyone needing assistance picking up food or necessaties contact Allen City Hall (580)857-2461.
