A small vacant home in the 100 block of Baltimore Street, Allen, was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning.

Allen fire chief Braylee Dickerson reported the alarm went out at approximately 4:18 a.m.; he arrived at the scene a short seven minutes later. While the fire was confined to just the one house, a neighboring house received some heat damage to its siding.

Several neighbors reported hearing a loud, booming noise just prior to the fire’s outbreak. Dickerson said the noise may have been an exploding propane tank. “We don’t have a cause in mind,” Dickerson said, adding that the investigation is ongoing. “One thing I can tell you is there was live power to it, so on an old house like that, anything’s possible.”
