School board updates policies
The Allen School Board updated several policies Monday during its regular meeting.
In action items, the board first addressed new required changes to the OSSBA policy FE “Open Transfer Policy Transfers and Assignments.”
Allen Schools had to have its open transfers policy set by January 1, 2022, after a law concerning the matter for all schools was passed. Schools must list what the capacity is for each class.
The board also approved new required OSSBA policy FFACDAA “Seizure Safe Schools.”
This policy also starts January 1 st , and basically states that for a student who are susceptible to seizures, the school system must have a medical plan on file, and someone on staff who is trained in rendering aid to a student until EMS can arrive.
The board also voted to modify the OSSBA policy DEFA-R1 “Leave Sharing.”
Superintendent Jeff Hiatt said the previous rules were somewhat vague, so the board cleaned it up.
Related to the policy, during executive session, the board approved more sick day sharing for a staff member who has been ill for many days this year and had run out of sick days.
The board also voted to modify the OSSBA policy CO “Wellness Policy,” as recommended by the safe school/healthy fit committee.
Hiatt said Allen Schools needed to update the wellness policy, which hadn’t been updated in many years.
It was recommended some things be removed.
“Basically, just pulling some stuff out of it that we don’t do anymore,” Hiatt said. “We didn’t add anything to it, we just eliminated some of the stuff that put restrictions on some of the classrooms that we felt were unnecessary.”
Consent Agenda The board approved the consent agenda, which included the minutes of the November 8, 2021 Regular Meeting; the fiscal year 2021-2022 Purchase Orders/Encumbrances: General Fund #202 thru 222 ($93,448.66); the Treasurer’s report; the Activity Fund report; and Technology Surplus.
