Sales Tax Receipts Mixed for Area
The April distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from February business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from February 16th to 29th and estimated sales from March 1st to March 15th .
The disbursement of $146,931,074 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected a decrease of $894,385 from the $147,825,459 distributed to the cities and towns in April last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $20,964,255 .
In county returns, the counties shared in a $24,194,963 sales tax disbursement and a $ 3,803,983 use tax disbursement.
On the local level, Allen, Calvin and Gerty all posted gains while Ada, Atwood, Francis and Holdenville were down.
Allen received $974.52 over the same period last year. This year’s April returns totaled $13,489.67 compared to $12,515.15 in 2019. Calvin had an even higher gain, going to $8,212.57 from $5,593.69 last year; and Gerty was up to $278.40 from $259.40.
Ada dropped to $1,199,004.90 from $1,244,929.76; Atwood went from $2,384.63 last year to only $331.75 this year; Francis dropped to $1,161.24 from $1,809.26; and Holdenville dropped to $212,485.32 from $262,869.69.
County returns were down in both Hughes and Pontotoc Counties. Hughes received $94,183.77 down from $251,311.90; and Pontotoc posted $339,165.79 compared to $344,882.64 in 2019.
Of the area towns, only Allen, Ada, Calvin and Holdenville collect Use Tax and all four showed increases in 2020. Allen was up to $2,846.45 from $2,223.87 last year; Ada increased to $113,298.86 from $108,047.84; Calvin was up to $1,648.76 from $946.64; and Holdenville posted $18,531.51 compared to $15,814.53 last year.
County Use Tax returns were down substantially in Hughes County, $11,225.39 this year compared to $45,932.96 last year; but Pontotoc County posted a gain, $41,438.68 up from $36,820.90 in 2019.
