The PUBLISHERS Pen
We were among the many to attend the homegoing service of Dwayne Johnson. He was a special young man and a dear friend. You seldom find a person who is loved by everyone, but Dwayne was that person. He brought joy to whomever he was around and wherever he was.
During the years, he worked with us at the Advocate, we had so much fun. I have never known a person that was so content. Wherever he went, whomever he was with and whatever he had to eat was perfect. Especially, the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups he always received from us at Christmas. They were accompanied by a lot of $1.00 bills and he loved it!!
Dwayne had a big impact on a lot of families including ours. We loved him and will miss him.

We saw Charles and Betty Speir at the service. On our way home, Dane asked the question, “Aren’t they the ones that kept you going when you first bought the Advocate?” The answer was, “YES!” I don’t believe we would have ever survived without them and their kindness will never be forgotten.

Today I want to look back at the year of 1981 and share a couple of stories.
Ed Huckeby Has Received Honor
Ed Huckeby of Alva, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ceil Huckeby of Allen, was selected as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America for 1981.
A letter from the office of director of Outstanding Young Men of America received by the Cecil Huckebys read in part: “Your son, in receiving this distinctive honor, joins an elite group of young men from the entire United States who have demonstrated their excellence in professional endeavors and civic activities. These men work diligently to make their cities, as well as their country, a better place in which to live, and deserve recognition for their outstanding achievements.”
Huckeby is director of Northwestern Oklahoma State University at Alva. This summer he worked on his Doctor’s degree at Denton, Texas. He is a graduate of Allen High School and East Central State College, Ada and attended OU. He was band director for two years in the Allen school and for six years at the Poteau school. He has been at Alva the past four years where in 1976 he was named Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands and was appointed chairman of the music department the following year and was made a member of the honorary band masters’ fraternity Phi Beta Mu.
While at Poteau, Huc keby was a member of the Ft. Smith, Ark.
