The February regular meeting of the Town of Allen was Monday, February 6th. Members present were Wendell Smith, Rhonda Skelton and Dianna Brannan. The towns auditor from Russel and Williams CPS’s P.C. presented our yearly audit for year ending June 30, 2022. The report did not show any inadequacies in funds or tasks.

An encroachment easement agreement was agreed upon between the town and Dianne Cross.

Guests at the meeting were Pam Price, Phil Burke, Police Chief Brett Eden’s, Fire Chief Braylee Dickerson and Frank Phillips, a representative from PSO. Allen citizens are reminded to vote in the PSO franchise election this Tuesday, February 14 at your regular polling places from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. This agreement is a continuation from the last agreement and has to be approved in an election every 20 years. PSO has proved to be a great partner for the town and have recently updated all the streetlights in town. The upgrade gives a brighter light at the same time are more cost effective.

Chief Eden reported that during the last month he has been mostly dealing with juvenile offenders who have broken in the pool, (camera has caught them at the pool) and a local building where a neighbor caught and detained them until the police arrived. They have vandalized those locations as well as broken in to the locations. Choctaw Lighthorse department and other juvenile jurisdictions are responsible for the cases, and he is awaiting an update from them as to the next step for the juveniles. For the month there were 3 speeding, 1 operating without a license, driving under suspension or revoked license, 1 no insurance and 1 possession of a schedule I or II: first offense. 1 assault, 1 drug/narcotics, 1 stolen vehicle, 1 traffic impound and vandalism/destruction of property.

Fire Chief Dickerson praised the fire department for the house fire last week. “We had a great turnout, and we were actually able to save the back part of the house and some other outside buildings and equipment.”

The Town of Allen will start opening the sewer plant one Saturday a month for people to use the large dumpster to dispose of large items.

The first Saturday that it will be open will this Saturday, February 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring $10 for each truck load to be disposed of. The cost will help offset the fee associated with trading out and emptying the large roll-off dumpster. A receipt will be provided on site. There will also be a place to dump limbs and yard debris. However, do not bring tires, paint, batteries or any other hazardous material. This will be a good way for citizens to start cleaning up their property.

It was agreed that the council will call a special meeting to approve the county FEMA mitigation plan as soon as it is finalized so the county can submit it.
