One Pharmacist’s View
Roof Leaks & Wet Weather
The Drought is over. It has now rained enough everywhere that the USA is soaked. Lakes are fi lled and yes--I’ve had enough. It was raining about everywhere on my recent road trip to Miami, Florida and points in between. In between rains it was very hot. I finally returned to my blessed home place here in Allen and what has it done all day? It’s rained. TV news just about everywhere features dumb motorists who don’t turn around but decide to drown. Makes good pictures and gives rescue squads something to do. And if you ever wondered if you have a leaky roof, now is the time to look up. If it hasn’t leaked yet, it’s for sure, OK.
Even the White House has a leak. No, I’m not speaking of the story type of leak but actual water leaks. The fl ooding is taking place in the reporter’s press room. Naturally. The paranoid reporters are fairly sure that President Trump is trying to drown them but happily, the people who count (Janitors) were able to pump the water out of the room. Of course, the pressroom is below ground level which brings up other topics closely related to press paranoia.
Although I have to admit that Mr. Trump doesn’t like the media, Democrats and people of Mexican origin, he has now caused a shortage of Bibles of all sorts. Not big concern of mine since I already own a Bible or two, but new Bibles. Around 2 million Bibles are sold in the USA every year and yes, (don’t get ahead of me here) more than half are printed by the non-believing Chinese. Yes, it’s the tariff’s fault. Organizations such as the Gideon’s, give away scads of Bibles every year. White ones for nurses, black ones for doctors and little ones for school kids. All kinds. Most American publishers farm their printing out to China. Maybe we’ll have to pay more for the Holy Word or perhaps lobby to get the Bibles on the exempt list. We’ll see.
On another note it was not exactly news to me that the average person no longer seeks counsel from their pastor. Who do they use? Well for financial advice they seek out a financial guru. For marital advice, a marriage counselor, and for advice for the lovelorn, uh--that might be anyone from “Dear Abby” to a friend who knows zip about love. Pastors are still in demand for spiritual advice and comfort in their times of need but just to a lesser degree. We also have grief counselors now. Some of which will conduct a funeral. Sorry, but I’m afraid I’ll need my preacher for that.
In case you wondered, my vacation was just fine. I didn’t (as a few optimists mused) drop dead from my overtaxing travel and made it back just fine. I enjoyed seeing my grandson Colton Bullard celebrate his 30th birthday. We were somewhat skeptical that the young man (who is autistic) would live this long, but he did and is prospering fine in South Florida. Pat and I visited with several kin down in Alabama and hope to return to visit more later on. My cousin David Bullard loaded us up with the tastiest tomatoes I ever ate. David is a fantastic person, a farmer who seems to know no limits when it comes to work and hospitality. Thanks to Jimmy Bullard for his hospitality down there. We found all over again that Alabama is a great State and thanks to all who were so nice to us.
It is good to be home again. And I’ll again invite all to church this Sunday. Or like the giant billboard on I-65 south of Birmingham says: “Go To Church Sunday, or the Devil will get you!”
