One Pharmacist’s View

It just keeps on a keepin’ on

We used to talk about something called the “news cycle.” This is supposed to be the amount of time a particular topic or story continues to be aired before it cycles out. Well, the news comes pretty fast and furious these days with President Trump introducing the world to a newer and more exciting kind of news cycle. It’s called “Twitter Time.” Mr. Trump is said to get up about 3 a.m. and turns on his TVs and gets started twitting.

Seems no subject is off limits and the most common observation of this bombardment of “twits” is that they are non-stop and broad spectrum eyebrow raisers. Also the people feel that the use of twits by The President is undignified and not presidential. Many of his twits are branded untrue by his critics and did anyone say anything about correct grammar?

Trump haters have seized on his twitting as being just more lies. And his clothes. The man wears a black or dark suit all the time, a super-long red tie and says whatever comes on his mind. He parades his beautiful and articulate wife around (does she really speak 26 languages?) with him and he travels a lot. Critics worry about him wearing out his covey of 747 aircraft. While Trump’s clothing doesn’t measure up to what a billionaire ought to be wearing his wife is said to dress too nice. I don’t know about that--she looks pretty sharp to me when she steps off that helicopter. But my standards may be different for how a lady is supposed to dress. What do I know?

Now Mr. Trump is under heavy fire over the wall he wants to build between the USA and Mexico. The new wall, he says, when combined with larger ports of entry with state of the art drug, gun and smuggler detection will enable the Border Patrol to effectively control the flow of humans, drugs, guns and all that. Complainers say the wall just won’t work. “They will just dig tunnels under it,” say others. And the smugglers will fly their drugs over it with drones. And the supporters of the wall say “let ‘em try.” And with what will he build this wall? Will it be concrete or steel or a chain link fence? And why are American taxpayers having to pay for it?

Exactly how many Americans still want a wall is debatable. Polls still indicate nearly all his supporters want one. “That’s what he ran on and that’s what we want,” most declare. And the President has been pretty faithful to his supporters. Some things he promised includes to shake up the trade agreements with Japan and China. He is said to be bringing a lot of America’s industry back to our country and is slowing down the fl ow of illegal immigration that has plagued America over the past years. He is upgrading the military in his efforts to make “America Great Again.” He’s started his program to bring our troops home from the many foreign outposts we maintain.

The economy has comeback with a bang and employment is the highest in 20 years. Minorities are enjoying prosperity unheard of for them. And wages continue to increase. Taxes have been decreased and gas prices are the lowest in many years. Well, I could go on. But his making the economy better and not wearing that ball cap around helps. Most of his flock are not only quiet but happy. He explained (in his way) to a large horde of reporters in the rose garden last week how it is that Mexico is going to end up paying for the wall. This group of liberal reporters would have gladly lynched the President and donated his liver to science but he still has secret service protection.

I’m staying close to my phone in case the “Donald” calls me. If he does I will advise him to sign the budget and wait 2 or 3 days and declare a state of emergency and build his wall. Just chicken feed. Five billion dollars is just loose change to a billionaire.

And be sure and go to church Sunday and remember to take your offering.
