Skipping February
What do you think about skipping February? And why? Well, just this. I don’t much like it. It’s too strange. Is winter about over just because the calendar says its February? No. In fact, some of our worst snows and ice storms came in this unneeded month. Besides, who made up all this calendar stuff anyhow? What is “time” anyway?
Well, they say it was Julius Ceasar. Naturally it would have to be on AD 1. Julius may have been the big boss, but he didn’t know beans about calendars and stuff. And he sure didn’t know about that 365 & ¼ days in the year. Really messed all that up. Besides, up till then the year started on March 1. Another mess. After a long spell, the “powers that be” finally spoke up and started griping about Ceaser’s 1/4th day error. After several years of spatting about it “authorities” invented several new types of calendars, none of which were accepted by the other “authorities” that were, well—other authorities.
Well, “they” whoever “they” are finally worked it out and if you don’t live in China or Maya or someplace all is going smoothly. Except for me. I’ve decided I just don’t like February and if we could just delete it, we could get onto something better. Spring. We all know that winter lasts too long anyway and what with the price of natural gas going through the ceiling this would be an easy way to get rid of a big bill and make it easier for all of us.
I will leave January alone. Its name is the very epitome of winter and if we “have” to have it let’s do it in January. If February is deleted, we can skip right on to March, which I don’t like too much either. Ten days would be enough of that windy disgusting month. April is nice. The birds are singing, the air is mild, and it brings those great April Showers. Then here comes May with its fresh smell of rain and flowers and the promise of vacation time. Swimming pools are opening, and pretty girls appear in their latest and prettiest fashions. And schools turn out in May, don’t they? May rates 50 days too! Let it last!
Then comes June with its wonderful memories of vacations past and fun coming on fast! This great month slips by way too fast. Thirty days are way too few days for such a great month. What did Julius know? Let’s give it 48 days! But July is something else. Twenty days for July? July is OK as long as you stay in the air conditioning between about 10AM and 7PM. August? What were they thinking! By now summer’s heat has run up your power bills as your air conditioning tries to save you from Biden’s global warming. One week is enough.
I think September is a good month but passes by way too fast. School is starting and so is football. And winter is just around the corner, isn’t it? September feels good for 40 days. October is OK. Just leave it alone. Cold weather on its way anyhow. November is good too with its 30 days. And that leaves us with the 41 days of Christmas. Best of all, no February.
Well, I hope you all have a good March, which without a February is right here on us. Enjoy the spring. If it was up to me, it would be here already.
Be sure and go to church Sunday, regardless of the month.
