One Pharmacist’s View
Corona Virus, China & Money
In England, a great patriot named Winston Churchill (the man who did more to defeat fascism than anyone) is now labeled as just another fascist. And now their poorly informed client protestors want to tear down Winston’s statue. Here in our own beloved country it has come to be counted as a good thing to tear down our historical statues such as Christopher Columbus, George Washington and even Thomas Jefferson. Honest Ab, look out.
Their behavior reminds me of that book, titled 1984. In the book, 1984, George Orwell, its chief character lived in a world of truth and untruth, speak and un-speak. And now we seem to be living in it too. In Orwell’s world, America’s founders would be traitors. Historical significance and religion are being relegated to the trash heap. The very word Capitalism is now unpatriotic and to wave the flag is racist. The idea that “work” makes wealth is un-speak. And the thought of some people having more “stuff” than others is untruth. The University educated group of Marxists promoting the socialism of today are riding high and using all sorts of thought patterns to win converts. And they are doing a good job of it. George Orwell’s makebelieve world of 1984 has finally arrived.
Progressives have found that race hatred is one of the main vehicles they can ride to victory. It is good to abolish police departments. Money wasted on police (they say) should be diverted to social programs. Or them. They demand immediate destruction of all old American ideals. Their role model is China. These people say the freedom loving Chinese are now the future we covet.
Let me say that by giving away or allowing the Chinese to pilfer, steal and just take trade secrets has resulted in rapid economic growth for them. How much growth? Well compare their economy to ours. Really! The per capita earnings in China are $9,770.00 per year. That’s 72 nd in the world. Or, 15% of ours in the USA. Lower than that in Mexico. After a half century of State enforced efforts, China remains largely a peasant society. Many say this is unlikely to change much over the next several decades.
Since 1980 Chinese families have been limited to having only one child. This law was enforced by harsh abortion laws. Now look at what a mess they are in. With a birth rate of 1.05% their shrinking work force is equal to only 70% of the population. In just a few years that will drop to 47%. Meanwhile, here in the US the population’s working age numbers continue to increase. The Chinese government owns and manages the banks and favors development loans to government businesses. In the US private businesses get the loans. They also do much better. Thus, China’s future business growth outlook is dimming by yet another government decree.
Meanwhile, from 2010 to 2019 the US Stock market increased in value by 250% in “capitalistic” America. Seven of the largest companies in the world are located here in the good old USA. America is still, by far the wealthiest democracy ever heard of or dreamed of in history. It still offers more opportunities and more personal freedoms for people, regardless of race or color than any other country. By far. And America did not become what it is today by exploitation of black people, limiting freedom of Jews or any other race or group of people. We have been free of slavery for 155 years. We still suffer from problems of the heart—race prejudice. Most of our problems are a result of our failure to obey the greatest commandment. “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
We are also commanded to be obedient to the law. Nothing in there about burning down the church house or destroying the places we live in. I think that it’s time we fix the problems in our hearts and enjoy the God-given rights and fruits of the society that our forefathers bled and died for.
I say, “God Bless America.” “Love your neighbor” and be sure and go to church this Sunday.
