~~ Greeks Learn Syrian ~~

Posted in:

Five years ago, the Greek Island of Lesbos was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination was based on their compassionate acceptance and help to the Syrian refugees that were flooding over their borders from Syria by way of Turkey. The press was almost orgiastic toward the citizens for their love and help toward these refugees. But now all that has changed. Refugee camps now cover hundreds of former foodproducing fields with tents, people and debris. Trash is everywhere and now the Lesbos farmers are all worked up against these people that have shut down their livelihood.

Instead, they have formed armed patrols, roaming the border areas attempting to keep the refugees out and running them off. Last week one of the patrols was responsible for turning away a boat loaded with Syrian pregnant women and children causing quite a ruckus both in Syria and Turkey. And the good press and nominations of awards to the Greek people have come to a stop.

Moving on. The election hopes of Bernie are sinking fast what with the primary’s favoring a late blooming Biden. It now appears that the elderly and forgetful Biden will face Trump in November on the ballot. Either way, the trend for the two old “White Guys” (Biden and Trump) meeting on the November ballot looks pretty good. I had forgotten about how Biden’s unique abilities with the English Language makes Trump seem like a Silver-Tongued Orator. What with the President’s unique ability to blend his speech in with that of any good old “Okie” bar talker and Biden’s gaffs and temporary attacks of Alzheimer’s, voters should be able to witness a unique head to head political debate next summer. I voted for Biden on Super Tuesday but haven’t bought any bumper stickers yet. Just in a wait and see mode.

In the meantime, the Economy that the Democrats say was given to Trump by Obama has really prospered. And Trump has embraced the prosperity. Both were still fighting last week about just who was to be credited with this blessing. If indeed Mr. Trump has brought us all this abundance of economic happiness, then the election in the fall is his. On the other hand, if Joe can keep his mouth shut and hands off the pretty girls (and old women) we’ll be calling him Mr. President. In the meantime, Joe Biden also needs to keep an eye on old Bernie.

On Monday, President Trump’s supporter’s took note of the Dow Jones on Wall Street. Voters with their retirements tied up in 401Ks suddenly remembered that when the Dow takes a dive, so does their own net worth. Suddenly the 7% dip last Monday got everyone’s attention. The 5% surge early Tuesday morning got less attention. Perhaps it is the overwhelming attention the Coronavirus that holds the public’s attention. And to no one’s surprise, the Democrats are blaming Donald Trump for the spread of this virus.

It’s interesting to see how people are reacting to the new viral threat. Yes, it breaks down per politics too. Liberals are scared to death that the virus will sweep the earth like the scourge of “Black Death” in the middle ages and is more akin to Ebola than anything else. Conservatives, true to their name are pretty ho hum about this new flu. Using past flu scares (remember SARS?) as their reference point like to remind us that new flu strains come and go. That we should use “common sense” with this and not go crazy over it. The President of Harvard (another flaming liberal) didn’t hear this and has already turned out school. Yes. When the spring break comes, the students go home. School is closed. Do not come back. A save yourself type of action.

I’ll just say this: Stay cool, calm and collected. Forget the mask. Wash your hands and go to church Sunday. Unless your liberal pastor turns it out.
