It’s been an exciting week in Allen as pride for the Lady Mustangs team ran high. The team spent the week preparing for a trip to the Big House. The State Tournament Class A basketball games started this morning at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds as the local ladies took on the #1 ranked Seiling Lady Wildcats at 9:00 a.m.

With a questionable charging call with seconds left in the game the girls suffered a tough loss Thursday night, 44-35, to the number 4 team from Cyril. But the Lady Mustangs, ranked number 5, came roaring back Saturday beating the number 9 Canute team 4436 and bringing home the Class A Area Tournament consolation championship. Both games were played on the Chickasha High School court.

This win punched their ticket to State with all games to be played at the State Fair Arena, Oklahoma City.

The Allen girls will be putting their 24-3 record up against the Lady Wildcats 23-3 record. Don’t count the scrappy Allen team out against the perinial favorite Seiling. Allen’s sometimes stiffling defense can cause some turnovers which the Lady Mustangs almost always capitaize on. A win on Thursday brings them back for another 9 am contest against the winner of Quinton and Empire. The Quinton/Empire game is slated for a 10:30 tip on Thursday. Class A Girls finals are 11:30 Saturday.

Expect the Allen fans to outnumber their opponents by a large margin, as they have proved all year to be die-hard meet you any time, any day cheering section.

Allen 44, Canute 36 The Lady Mustangs kept the Lady Trojans in line Saturday, leading 23-14 at the half. They kept the pace and took the 8-point win.

Addison Prentice had one of her best games, hitting four 3-pointers and leading the scoring with 19; she also had three assists and a pair of steals.

Cherish Woodward just missed double digits with nine points and grabbed nine rebounds. Stoney Cully hit one 3-point shot and scored a total of six points; she also had four assists and three steals. Kaylee Davis and Ava Laden each contributed five points for the win. The Lady Mustangs made 11-of-20 free throws in the contest.
