It’s A Family Tradition
Taking care of Allen and its citizens seems to have become a tradition for the Edens family. The Allen City Council is pleased to announce their new police chief is Brett Edens. Brett follow his uncle, Wes Edens, and grandfather, John Edens, in serving Allen as police officers.
Wes Edens served in the Allen Police Department under Welton Priest from February 1982 to August 1984. John Edens was deputy under Chief Andy Anderson until Anderson left and then assumed the chief position. He provided security for Allen for ten years before his retirement in 1994.
Brett Edens is a 2012 graduate of Allen High School. After high school he attended East Central University, Ada, and received his degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement in 2016. He worked with the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office before returning to Allen in October to assume the chief’s position.
He and wife McKenzi are making their home in Allen. Brett has two children, 5-year old Zeke and 3-year old Kenzlea.
Brett said, “I’m proud to take on this responsibility. Allen is, was and always will be home for me. I am also pleased to have Chad Vandever on staff as an Allen officer. He has already proven to be a big asset.”
Vandeveer is a resident of Sulphur who will assist with patrolling and protecting Allen and also continue working for Mercy EMS, Ada.
Chief Edens urges everyone to use the Central Dispatch non-emergency phone number, (580) 332- 4466, to report incidents. They are always able to reach him and send assistance as needed.
