Holdenville was the second hardest hit city in a night of tornadoes across the state last Saturday, April 27th. Sirens sounded twice, warning locals to seek shelter. After the storms had passed, most of the city had lost power. Crews came quickly and had power restored by Sunday morning. The two deaths reminded old timers of the 1950 tornado that destroyed Penn West. It was the worst tornado in local history and five were killed and many injured.

A four-month-old child and Jimmy Johnson Ill, both of Holdenville, were killed in the Sat-urday night tornado that ripped through Holdenville. Four others were injured and Tyler and Selina Skeen, parents of the four-month-old, remain in the hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Governor Stitt and State Representative David Smith were in Holdenville to assess the situation and offer their full assistance.
