Allen High School FCCLA Students Lead Efforts in Reducing Teens Driving Crashes and Injuries

“I Promise Not to Text and Drive! I will wear my seatbelt and I will not ride with a distracted driver!” This personal promise was one of many solutions put into action for the Allen High School team of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) who recently attended a virtual leadership conference on the importance of safe driving. Maddox Wofford, Kaili Childers, Alex Williams, Kloe Dew, Aniston Weeks, Jamie Denbow, Tina Davis, and Heather Simpson, accompanied by Advisor Julie Knighten joined over 2400 high school, middle school, and technology students from across Oklahoma to begin to develop awareness plans for their local schools and communities on the lethal issue of distracted driving and the importance of seatbelt use.

“This program provides a unique opportunity for FCCLA students as it empowers them to address the issue of traffic crashes, which is the number one cause of death for this age group, with their peers.” said Julie Knighten. “The message to our community is important too. We all need to pay attention to our driving, no matter our age.”
