At the April meeting of the Allen City Council three new members were sworn in and took their new seats on the board. New members Braylee Dickerson, Melinda Haney and Joshua Marshall replaced April Whitehead, Delwayne Johnson, and Wendell Smith; joined current members Dianna Brannan and Rhonda Skelton on the council. After approving the minutes and claims from the previous month, guest Kim Mowdy spoke. She was concerned about the number of dogs roaming the town. A discussion of the state and local laws concerning the matter ensued. Citizens are reminded that if it is a vicious dog, please call central dispatch number 580-332--4169 so there will be a record of the call. If it’s just a stray call city hall and they will dispatch the dog catcher.

Police citation report showed 15 tickets: 8 for speeding, 2 failures to obey traffic sign, 1 operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license, 1 driving in an unsafe manner, 1 operating a motor vehicle without proper license plate or decal, 1 obstructing an officer and 1 by means of force or violence, resist any officer in the performance of his duty. A discussion on how to improve the police department radios were discussed. Chief Edens has a radio that works well with the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s department; however Officer Vandeveer’s radio has some range limitations. Apparently, the Allen police department needs to get its own FCC Frequency so we are looking in to working on that problem. The lack of communication with other agencies can sometime prove to be a safety concern for our officers.

City Manager Calem Woodward gave continued Page 3 reports updating the status of cleaning ditches, spraying all city owned property to help with appearance and makes it easy for summer mowing. He is exploring options of grant and other means to pay for the equipment.

They have been working on getting the pool up and running. He has received bids for a skid steer that could be used on repair of ditches and work well in the cemetery. If you are interested in working at the pool this summer stop by city hall and fill out an application; all lifeguards must be certified. Also if you are looking for a job, here close to home we have an opening for a general worker to help with mowing, repairing water leaks or any other task the city manager would assign.
