Covid Numbers Up

School Implements Distance Learning Plan

Posted in:

It’s a tough time for the Allen Public Schools. There were five positive cases of Covid-19 diagnosed in the school during the past two weeks, two staff members and three students. A number of students have also been lost due to mandatory health department quarantines along with 10 staff members.

The week started with 29% of the student population out of school and ended last Friday with 43% of students out. This percentage is due to mandated health department quarantines and/or parents choosing to self-quarantine their kids.

Because of these numbers and concern for the safety of students, staff, and community the tough decision to transition to distance learning for the next two weeks was made by the Allen School administration. In-person learning has been suspended until after Thanksgiving Break.

This is the highest number of cases ever reported in Allen and Pontotoc County so far. During the distance learning time the school will be deep cleaned and procedures to increase social distancing in classrooms will be revisited.

Lunch

Allen Public Schools will be serving breakfast and lunch meals during the time they are shut down. Serving will begin today, Thursday, November 12th and continue to Thursday, November 19th. These meals will cover the school days missed due to being shut down. Meals will be available to any child age 1 to 18.

Pick up times will be daily from 11:00am-12:00pm.

Due to the increasing numbers of Covid in our community, when you pull up to pick up your meals, you will tell us how many meals you need, they will be set on a table, and you will grab your own bags, maintaining a 6 foot distance at all times.
