Cool...Clear...Water
“Water is the lifeblood of our bodies, our economy, our nation and our well-being.” - Stephen Johnson.
Water, every living thing needs it for survival. And the Town of Allen is blessed by what we consider some of the best drinking water around.
Allen has 4 wells located in Hughes County pumping its water from the North Canadian Aquifer in the Gerty Sands basin. Once out of the ground and chlorination stations it is ran through an aerator then through a series of manifolds out to the pipes that fill our two water towers.
Each month the town pulls between 1.9 to 2.9 million gallons of water to service our 579 taps (some are inactive) in the town of Allen. During the month of June 1,467,189 gallons were sold bringing in $12,585.89 in revenue for the town. That total does not include the sewer and garbage costs billed to customers. Considering the cost of labor, chemicals, electricity and maintenance that we think that our water is extremely cheap.
These last few extremely hot weeks the electric companies have called Peak Days in which we must reduce our electric usage during certain hours during the day. On those days our employees have to turn the pumps off and only run them during the evening hours, so the pumps run all night to fill our two water towers. Even during this time of near drought our aquifer has stayed steady in its levels.
Out of this basin the Gerty Water district and several farmers also pump for livestock and irrigation purposes. All users have an application through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board that regulates amounts and usage for the product.
Water samples are collected periodically and sent to the Department of Environmental Quality for evaluation. A glance through the Water Consumer Confidence Report the Allen system had No Violations during Calendar Year 2021.
