Over 85 family members and friends gathered at the Allen Church of Christ this past Saturday, November 5th, to honor Lee Otto Harrington for his 90th birthday. His actual birthday is November 3rd.

Born in Harper Valley, Oklahoma to W.B. and Abby Harrington, Otto was the second of eight children. After starting school in Harper Valley, the family moved to C-Tree, then on to McAlester before moving to the Atwood/Allen area. Otto graduated from Atwood High School in 1952 and on June 5, 1953 married his high school sweetheart, Imogene Leach. The couple was blessed with four children: Randy, Rhonda, Sheila and Trisha.

In 1950, while still in high school, Otto joined the Oklahoma National Guard 180th Division, 45th Battalion. When the unit was activated for the Korean War, Otto was discharged to finish high school. Graduating in 1952, he was drafted into the Army in 1953, just as the conflict was ending. Stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, he attended Radio School, then ran training maneuvers in 1954 as an “Aggressor,” training tank and artillery units.

Discharged in January of 1955, Otto and Imogene moved their home to Oklahoma City where he was employed by Wilson Packing house until 1983. The family then moved home to Allen and Otto worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot. He retired in 1998 and now enjoys his days taking care of his goats and donkeys.
