Atwood Baptist Church News
October is such a beautiful, serene time of the year! It gives us a chance to slow down a bit and enjoy the rich beauty God creates for the earth even as it—the northern hemisphere at least--winds down to prepare for the winter. It seems to be going by so fast this year, though, that we have to hurry up so we can slow down to enjoy the season before it is gone.
Remember that Saturday, the 27th is Fall Festival Day in Atwood so gather the young-uns and grand-young-uns and come enjoy the day.
Women’s Bible Study, led by Shelley Brown, will be on Tuesday, October 30th , at 9:30 A.M. We’re looking forward to the study and the fellowship. These lessons are non-denominational, and all women in the community are invited.
Joyce Searcy sang “Consider the Lilies” during the special music portion of the worship service this Sunday. The words “He’s not too busy to care about you,” and “He has eyes full of mercy and a heart full of love.” We serve an amazing Lord!
Rev. Brown’s sermon was titled “How to Get Ready” and was from Ruth 3:1-5. God has a purpose in mind for every one of us every day—even our failures. He wants to bless us, but we need to get ready to receive those blessings.
Boaz was a wealthy and godly man. Like Jesus, he didn’t consider himself too good to take care of those who needed him. Naomi advice to Ruth about the customs in Judah and how to prepare to receive a blessing is also good advice for us.
First, know what you are going after. Stay focused on the plan and destiny God has especially for you. In Ruth’s case, she was focused on Boaz, not just any man.
Second, Ruth was to wash herself. Wash away your past, and don’t allow it to dictate your future. Confess you sins to God, and then go before Him as his child, not as the sinner you were before.
Third, anoint yourself. Put on a positive, constructive attitude. Go before God with a glad and thankful heart.
Fourth, put on a garment of praise and joy. Get dressed for where you are headed,
Fifth, keep your mouth shut. Instead of going before God trying to explain every little thing to Him who knows all, he wants you to be still.
Sixth, listen to hear what the Lord wants to say to you.
Start each day with your main focus on God, preparing yourself to receive a blessing. Then, with a glad and thankful heart, watch and listen for the blessings and victories He has prepared especially for you.
