After a three year stint at the ECU police force Darrell Armstrong will return as the Police Chief for the Town of Allen. During his absence he completed his masters degree in Law Enforcement. Armstrong is excited to get back to work in the town he lives in and plans on making huge strides in improving the force.

Darrell and his wife Roberta live in Allen. Roberta is employed by P.A.W.S., an animal welfare location in Ada.

The hire was the main part of the monthly meeting on Monday. The Court dates, Holiday schedule and monthly meeting dates were approved for the 2024 year.

Money was received from the Department of Agriculture Food and Forestry Department for a grant written by Debby Ward for an office and training room in the Allen Fire Station.

The Fire Department is requesting from the Pontotoc County Fire Tax money encumbrances for new bunker gear, boots, helmets, gloves to replace the equipment that is expiring soon. The cost is $29,882. Also some replacement fittings, hoses and valves from Davenport Fire Equipment Sales. The department also has a side by side they use on grass fires that carries water. It hasn’t been able serve that purpose since we have had it so we are looking to do a trade in to buy one that is big enough to carry the load. So we are declaring the 2016 Honda Pioneer Surplus. Also on the Surplus list is a 1979 Ford F800 and a 1972 AM General N35A. The County Commissioners are allowing each county agency to apply for a $10,000 ‘grant’ to buy a piece of equipment with left over ARP money. The Allen fire Department is going to request a Chest Compression unit, with a cost of $9,975 If it is approved it will be put into service to help give chest compression on heart attack victims until they can get to a hospital, hopefully saving more lives. This Saturday the firefighters are going to have a class on vehicle extrication. They have recently purchased the Hurst tool and will be trained how to safely use it to remove victims from automobile accidents.

After 10 years of the trash company raising their rates by 3% they town is at a break even point on the poly carts and are losing money on the dumpsters. To help alleviate the problem beginning in February we regret to inform customers there will be a 5% increase in their trash bill.
