The March 9, 2023 distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from January business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from January 16th to 31st and estimated sales from February 1st to the 15th.

The disbursement of $179,233,891 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $15,948,389 from the $163,285,502 distributed to them in March last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $27,936,312.

In county returns, the counties shared in a $30,718,552 sales tax disbursement and a $5,456,196 use tax disbursement.

Locally, Allen took a major hit on the amount of Sales Tax collected. In March 2023 the town received $22,058.05, down from $26,117.59. A decrease of $4,059.54. During this same period the revenues of Ada, Atwood, and Francis were also down; Calvin, Gerty and Holdenville posted gains.

Ada reported income of $1,455,012.07 this year, down from $1,610,382.89 in 2022; Atwood dropped to $219.79 from $684.73; Francis brought in $3,720.36, $778.74 less than the $4,499.10 received in 2022.

Calvin’s sales tax revenue for the month of March 2023 was $12,480.56, up from $9,453.63 last year. Gerty rose to $135.42 compared to $107.72 in 2022; and Holdenville was up to $238.853.71 from $227,284.33.

The two counties were also split with Hughes posting a gain and Pontotoc taking a loss. County Sales Tax in Hughes County was $127,771.16 compared to $113,300.57 last year; Pontotoc County dropped to $421,499.11 from $434,730.78.

Allen did have a nice increase in Use Tax revenue, receiving $2,023.20 more this year. Figures for March 2023 were $5,109.62 compared to $3,086.42 during the same period in 2022.

Ada took another loss when their Use Tax dropped to $150,715.58 from $152,644.30; Calvin also dropped, receiving $1,361.21 compared to $1,540.96. Holdenville increased to $36,267.84 from $23,472.71. Francis and Gerty are new to collecting Use Tax so, while Francis received $480.28 and Gerty brought in $82.49, there is no comparison. Atwood still does not collect Use Tax.

During the March collection period, both Hughes and Pontotoc Counties increased revenue. In Hughes, monies raised to $18,108.68 from $15,274.70, and in Pontotoc the amount received in 2023 was $65,416.19 up from $60,687.28 in 2022.
