The 17th annual Allen High School Academic Awards Program was held Thursday evening, May 11th. Students in grades 9 through 12 were recognized for their academic achievement and scholarly accomplishments.

The program began with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Kenan Walker. Followed by awards presentations.

Superintendent’s Honor Roll The first group recognized were those who have shown superior academic excellence by maintaining all A’s. These students have achieved A’s on both the fall and spring semester honor rolls this year and have earned the distinction of being listed on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll.

Students must have a minimum 3.9 GPA, leadership involvement, and indigenous cultural participation. This student was selected by a panel of reviewers. Congratulations to Jakob Hisaw on this accomplishment. Scholarships and Awards Amy Kaiser from First United Bank of Ada recognized Jakob Hisaw and Taylor Wood for serving on their Student Bank Board.

Masonic Lodge Awards The Masonic Lodge of Allen is a strong supporter of Allen School’s academic initiatives and students’ achievement. Charles Speir announced winners in the Senior Essay Contest.

Local Division—Women: 3rd Place—Jamie Denbow, 1st Place— Maebrey Wallace Local Division—Men: 3rd Place—Taylor Wood; 2nd Place—Alexander Williams; 1st Place—Jameson Eoff. Jameson also won 5th Place in the State Division and was awarded $500.

The Masonic Student of Today award stands for: character, academics, leadership and general personal and academic development that make them truly outstanding young men and women. This is the first team to compete at the State Academic Meet where they placed 3rd in Class 2A. All competed at least at one meet this year with nine choosing to compete at State.

Members of the Academic Team that participated this year are: State Competitors were Kelsey Hurt, Easton Ledo, Ty O’Daniel, Brooklyn Sanders, Jack Todd, Keenan Walker, Maebrey Wallace— Captain, Camdyn Williams and Taylor Wood. Also on the team were Lance Johnson, Conner Smith and Alex Williams.

Scholarships Oklahoma Rural Rehabilitation Corporation, Stillwater awarded a $500 scholarship to Jakob Hisaw.

LaValley Insurance and American Farmers and Ranchers in Holdenville, presented a $1000 scholarship to Maggie Yarbrough.

Eastern Oklahoma State College awarded three scholarships to Maebrey Wallace. One of the scholarships was given to her when she signed to compete on the Meat Judging Team that is worth $1000 per semester. The next scholarship is the Presidential Scholar that covers an $1200 tuition waiver and $800 room waiver per semester, the last one is the Otha Grimes Scholarship worth $1500 per semester for a grand total of $18,000 over 2 years. Brooklyn Sanders received a $2000 Scholarship from OERB.

Rocky Top Winery, Bob and Wilma Harden, awarded a $500 scholarship to Beckett Wells.

Students had to submit a two-minute video to compete for a $1000 scholarship from Texoma Chevy Dealers and Allen is pleased to congratulations Beckett Wells for this achievement.

Farmers State Bank is a big supporter of Allen Schools. They awarded eleven scholarships, worth $500 each, to students who have excelled in academics and leadership. Congratulations to Coyt Bell, Jamie Denbow, Brooklyn Sanders, Alexis Sla- baugh, Ansley Tollett, Quinton Walker, Maebrey Wallace, Aniston Weeks, Beckett Wells, Alexander Williams and Maggie Yarbrough.

Students who are Oklahoma Promise Scholars must meet the following criteria: 1. Achieve at least a 2.5 cumulative g.p.a.

2. Complete a 17-unit core curriculum The students who meet the requirements and will receive college tuition waivers worth up to $24,000 over 4 years are: Nicholas Boyles, Kloe Dew, Montana Griffith, Jakob Hisaw, Kinsey Smith, Aniston Weeks, Beckett Wells and Taylor Wood.

Students who have a cumulative g.p.a. of 4.0 throughout their high school career and enroll in college next fall will receive a scholarship on behalf of the Academic Booster Club worth $200. The students receiving this honor are Brooklyn Sanders, Alexis Slabaugh. Keenan Walker, Maebrey Wallace, Beckett Wells, Taylor Wood and Maggie Yarbrough.

Allen Alumni Scholarships, sponsored by the Allen Alumni Association, are based on academics and involvement in our school. $500 scholarships were presented to the following students: Coyt Bell and Brooklyn Sanders.

Oklahoma State University presented the following scholarships to Jake Hisaw: Louis C and Ada B Thomason Scholarship-$ 3000 Cowboy Covenant--$ 1000

Kenneth & Hoye Harwell Scholarhship--$ 3000 David Murphy Scholarship--$3000 OK-NARO Endowed Scholarship--$ 1000 Total over 4 years: $20,000 Yale University presented Keenan Walker, possibly the first graduate from Allen to attend an Ivy League College, a scholarship worth $360,000 over 4 years.

Allen was fortunate to have two students who applied for the Gates Scholarship. It is a lengthy process including writing essays and being interviewed. This scholarship does not have a dollar amount attached to it because it pays for a student to complete from bachelor's degree to doctorate’s degree. Receiving this honor were Jakob Hisaw and Keenan Walker.

The recipient of this award is an outstanding allaround student. Some of the qualities of this person include respect for peers and teachers, hard-working, good attendance, and a great attitude. This year’s recipient is Brooklyn Sanders.

Honor Students To qualify as a Senior Honor Student, a student must meet the following criteria: 1) Must meet all local and state graduation requirements

2) Must meet the Oklahoma Board of Regents requirements for college admission to a 4-year college.

Minimum cumulative g.p.a. of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale or top 10% of class 2. Complete the curricular requirements for a high school diploma 3. Valedictorian & Salutatorian Each year in the senior class the students with the highest g.p.a. for the first 7 semesters of their high school years are selected as Valedictorians. In addition to the g.p.a. requirement, students had to meet the criteria of a senior honor student and have attended Allen High School no less than 3 consecutive semesters. Rep. Ronny Johns also sent Citations to honor these students.

This year’s Valedictorians are Brooklyn Sanders, Alexis Slabaugh, Keenan Walker, Maebrey Wallace, Beckett Wells, Taylor Wood and Maggie Yarbrough.

This year’s Salutatorian is Aniston Weeks.

FFA — Academic achievements are: Olivia Wallace—This young lady received a scholarship to attend the Washington D.C. Leadership Conference this summer.

Jakob Hisaw, Brooklyn Sanders, and Maebrey Wallace received their State Degrees.

Maebrey Wallace was recognized as Academic Excellence Winnerwhich is the top 10% of all qualified applicants of the State FFA Degree Jake Hisaw received a $5000 Tractor Supply Company National FFA Scholarship Overall Scholarship Value Allen seniors have received or been offered approximately $3.6 million in scholarship money for the next four years.
