Allen FCCLA Chapter Making a Difference

Posted in:

The Allen chapter of the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is excited to be making a difference in the Allen Elementary students’ lives. This project is being called “Mustang Mentors” and Aniston Weeks and Maggie Yarbrough are serving as the Mustang Mentors project coordinators. For this project, elementary students in Pre-K - 3rd grade were paired with a high school FCCLA member who has been visiting them in their classroom once a month. Aniston and Maggie have chosen age activities for each month to complete with the elementary students. During their visits, FCCLA members will be encouraging and helping the elementary students while also teaching them about informative subjects.

FCCLA members began seeing their new friends in September. To create lifetime memories for both the mentor and the child. They played on the playground, made various crafts, and learned how important it is to set good examples.

Taryn Wofford our FCCLA Adviser said, “Our FCCLA chapter would like to say a very SPECIAL thank you to Mrs. Mayhue, Kristy Hiatt, and the Allen elementary staff for their willingness to participate and assist in this project with us.” Everyone has enjoyed the time that has been spent with our elementary kids. Hopefully, these “big” kids are impacting and shaping our future generations into being the type of mentors this world will need in the future.
