Allen drops first game to Lexington

Home Opener Friday 7:30 • Allen vs Stratford

The Allen Mustangs lost their first game of the season to Lexington Friday night, but the game was a little closer than the final score of 21-7 would indicate.

The game got off to a bad start for the Mustangs as the Bulldogs (Class 2A District 3) took the opening kickoff all the way to the house to make the score 6-0. After the PAT kick, it was 7-0, Lexington.

Allen’s first drive ended with a punt, leaving Lexington with good field position on the Mustangs’ 43 yard line.

However, Allen’s defense held, and the offense took over on downs. But Allen couldn’t capitalize and was forced to punt.

The Bulldogs drove the field and eventually scored on a two-yard rush. After a failed PAT attempt, the score at the end of the first quarter was 13-0, Lexington.

In the second quarter, the Mustangs held the Bulldogs deep in their own territory and took over on downs at the Lexington two yard line after Gerrett Nix blocked a Bulldogs punt.

Allen then scored on a rush by freshman Brayden Tatum. The successful PAT kick by senior Clayton Shackleford made the score 13-7, Bulldogs.

The score remained 13-7 through the halftime break and nearly all of the third quarter until Lexington scored with about two minutes left in the period.

After a successful rushing two-pointconversion, the Bulldogs went up 21-7, the final score.

The Mustangs will host the Stratford Bulldogs for another non-district game at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Bulldogs are 0-1 on the season after losing to Christian Heritage (42- 20).
