Allen City council met Monday for their regular February meeting. It was a short meeting and had two guest, Pam Price and Phil Burke.

Paying the annual auditor’s bill was approved. Russell and Williams will come and present the audit in the March regular meeting.

Bids were received for the purchase of a skid steer. A bid from Hisle Brothers was accepted for a unit that had been in service at the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex. It was the lowest bid and the machine had low hours. A grappler was also purchased for use on the skid steer. City Manager Calem Woodward says the machine will be put to use in the cemetery and working on drainage on Broadway to help alleviate the standing water.

Police Chief Darrell Armstrong reported that January was busy with alarms calls, theft calls, runaways, animal calls, disturbance and a couple of shots fired calls. He reported the Chickasaw Nation came and emptied the Drug refuse bin that is inside the police office. The status of the cars is that the black car is running well but the white car has had issues with keeping the battery charged. He believes the radio and radar is pulling excess power from the battery. Prank calls have started to be a problem, so he wants to remind everyone that if you have an emergency, please call 911 instead of his cell phone. He reported that there has been calls of suspicious activity in certain parts of town. If you have any information, please don’t hesitate to talk to Officer Armstrong about what you are seeing. He has also received his crossdeputation card from the Choctaw Nation Tribal Police and can now make arrest and write tickets in case that involve tribal members.

City Manager Woodward reported the cold weather brought the expected water leaks, he and the other employees spent some extra hours keeping the water lines repaired.

City Employee Harry Ellis will finish his 42 year career with the Town of Allen and begin enjoying his retirement on February 15. We certainly appreciate all the many years of work he has put into service this community.
