Allen City Council Holds Monthly Meeting

Posted in:

The Allen City Council met for their regular monthly meeting Monday. All members were present along with guests Pam Price, Wayne Layell, Ed McKerley, officer Chad Vandeveer, Fire Chief Braylee Dickerson and Police Chief Brett Edens.

After approving minutes and paying the monthly bills the council heard from Mr Layell about a spoton County Line Road which has become a hazard. The town has tried correcting it by filling the whole with gravel several times, but that solution is not fixing the problem. Two options were discussed filling the whole with concrete or filling it with asphalt. The day after the meeting City Manager Doug Stinson visited with newly elected Hughes County Commissioner Jim Lively and he will look to see what option he thinks will work in this situation.

The town is looking to hire a Code Enforcement officer for the town. This position has to be a someone with a certification in Code Enforcement. A Code officer conducts inspections and investigates complaints for compliance with City codes and ordinances. We have contacted some area code enforcement officer to see if they are interested in working part time in Allen and we are waiting to hear back from them.

A surplus list of vehicles was approved to put up for auction. It was decided the best decision is to contact one of the online auction companies for this sale. Right now, the list includes a 1991 international truck (tanker), 2007 Dodge Magnum, 1994 Ford flatbed F250, 2008 Dodge charger, 2006 Ford Expedition XLT, 1982 Ford Truck with Heil sanitation compactor, 1994 Ford Truck L80000 with McNeilus sanations compactor, 2002 GMC Sonoma pickup 1998 Ford F150 pickup, 1998 Ford F150, 2004 Ford F150LX. Board Member Del Johnson volunteered to contact a company and get that underway and we will post which auction site that will be. The fire department asked for approval to use Pontotoc County fire tax money to fix one of the fire engines.

The Allen Police submitted their monthly report. Thirteen citations were written including 5 speeding, 2 operating without a license, a transporting an open alcoholic beverage, a reckless driving, operating a vehicle without a license plate, owner fails to comply with the compulsory insurance law, and a possession of a schedule III, IV or V, marijuana. There were 17 incident reports written. A discussion on citizens being reluctant to call the department when they need to report something. While we realize calling Central Dispatch in Pontotoc County is not the thing most people do, right now we have no other option. With one offi cer on at a time, we have to have it a central place to for people to call since the offi cers don’t sit in the offi ce waiting on calls. The call to Central dispatch will directly notify our offi cers through their radios of all the details and also lets the sheriff’s offi ce be on standby if we need help. We appreciate people using social media to let their neighbors know what to look out for we need you also to make a call to our offi cers so they can be on the lookout as well. They DO NOT monitor social media 24/7 so please make that call. With thefts increasing all around us it will take a group effort to keep everyone safe, so be the eyes and ears for your neighborhood. Central Dispatch number (580)332-4466 or of course if it is an Emergency dial 911.
