Allen Citizens Honor Fallen Heroes

A large crowd gather Monday, Memorial Day, to honor Allen’s servicemen and women. The ceremony was held at 11:00 a.m. at the cemetery and this year’s speaker, Wayne Layell, did an outstanding job. 1st Sgt. Layell served in the U.S. Marine Corp, retiring in 1991 following 23 years of service for his country that included two tours in Vietnam.

Following the memorial service the Chamber of Commerce served a hamburger/hot dog luncheon at the Allen Masonic Lodge.

The Chamber would like to thank Mr. Layell for his talk; thanks also to Doug Stinson for organizing the ceremony, to Betty and Charles Speir for arranging for meal, to the ladies who served and provided the desserts, and to the Masons for cooking, cleaning and the use of the Lodge building.

We appreciate the hard work the town employees put in to make the cemetery look nice. With all the rain it was a big task and it was noticed. Also thanks to Joshua Marshall, Kim Mowdy, Keith Mowdy, Dianna Brannan and Julie Mills for placing and picking up the flags at the headstone of fallen veterans.
