The Advocate Says . . .
A great big Thank You to the team putting on this week’s Movie in the Park!
While we all enjoy the evening, eating the snacks and watching the show, a lot of work (and expense) goes into making this happen. Come out and enjoy “Sing 2” and let the workers know you appreciate them.
And speaking of the school, a lot is happening in preparation for the first day of school on August 18 th .
Tuesday evening August 16 is the Elementary Meet & Greet so young students can find their classrooms, drop their supplies off, and meet their new teacher.
Hopefully Seniors and Juniors picked up their class schedules. Sophomores may pick up theirs today (Thursday); the Freshmen should go get theirs next Monday morning and the 8 th graders are slotted for Monday afternoon. Tuesday morning will be the 7 th grade and that afternoon is set for the 6 th graders.
Shopping for a new school year is always exciting. Remember this weekend (August 5 th through 7 th ) is Oklahoma’s No-Tax Weekend. While this won’t help with school supplies, it’ll sure help with the cost of clothes and shoes.
The high school Lady Mustang Fast Pitch Softball Team has already had their first scrimmage and put on a good show.
The junior high have a scrimmage this evening in Atoka and the high school is traveling to Holdenville on Monday, both teams play in Wewoka here on Tuesday, and the high school will take on Milburn/Coleman on the home field next Thursday, August 11 th .
And while we’re talking about the school, Allen has been approved for Special Universal Service funding support and will be receiving $2,642.22 from OUSF this year.
A few weeks ago, in One Pharmacist’s View, Wayne Bullard commented on the condition of the Francis Road. While that probably had nothing to do with it, road work has been done between Allen and Francis and the road is now in better shape. Our thanks to county commissioner Gary Starns and his crew.
And welcome back to our Postman, Daniel Graham. He was off, ill, last week but we’re glad he’s better and back where he belongs.
