Ada Community Foundation Awards $27,000 to Allen Schools
Allen School was among eight area school districts which received $27,000 to help students in emergency situations in what are the first grants awarded by the Ada Community Foundation, an affiliated fund established at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation in 2016 by an anonymous donor to support charitable causes in Ada and the surrounding communities.
“Our first intention was to provide additional support to an area coat drive for youth,” said the donor. “We soon learned our area students need a lot more than coats. Some need eyeglasses. Some need food on weekends. We knew supporting the school resource accounts to help students in need would be our perfect introductory grant opportunity and beginning of a longterm investment in the betterment of the community.”
“We are so thankful for the support of the Ada Community Foundation,” said Kevin Wilson, superintendent of Byng Public Schools. “It could not have come at a better time for our students. This past year has been a challenge for everyone and many of our families have seen economic hardships. So far, we have used the grant to provide clothing and other necessities for students in need.”
Following is the list of school districts that received grants from the Ada Community Foundation: Ada City Schools, Allen Public Schools, Byng Public Schools, Latta Public Schools, Roff Public Schools, Stonewall Public Schools, Tupelo Public Schools, and Vanoss Public Schools.
Founded in 1969, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity that works with donors throughout the state to create charitable funds that will benefit our community both now and in the future. For more information, visit www.occf. org.
