When I first moved to Allen it was quite a culture shock. It was like stepping back in time but now, as Alumni Weekend is upon us, I got to thinking about how Allen has grown in the past 25 years since I started to call it home.

For the 94 time, Allen Alumni will gather for a reunion this weekend. This year’s event has changed to be one day only, Saturday, June 20 , with activities happening at the Allen City Park unless otherwise noted.

“People” sometimes ask me to write more about Allen’s olden history. There were no Allen newspapers in 1834 but according to a Historical Marker about 3.6 miles west of Allen on State HWY 1 there was something going on here. A large group of Osage Indians were camped out in those flats.

East Central University is recognizing students for their outstanding academic work during the Spring 2020 semester by naming them to the President’s Honor Roll. The President’s Honor Roll is reserved for students who earn A’s in all of their courses for a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Robert “Red” McDonald entered this life on December 21, 1943, at Weleetka, Oklahoma, born to Joe and Mable (Bannon) McDonald, the eighth of their ten children. He went to his heavenly home on May 31, 2020, at the age of 76 years, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Allen High School will hold their 2020 graduation on Saturday, June 13 , at 10:00 am. The ceremony will take place in the new gym on East Broadway.

The reopening of Allen Schools was discussed Monday, June 8 , at the regular meeting of Allen School Board. However, just exactly how it will be implemented is far from being set in stone as administrators will work over the summer break to develop a plan for reopening.

The Corona Virus (COVID-19) changed a lot of things for the seniors of 2020 and delayed their commencement by a month, but 46 Mustangs will cross the stage this Saturday, June 13 , to receive their diplomas in a graduation ceremony in the new, air conditioned, gymnasium.
