It’s almost here!! Saturday, July 9 , it’s our turn to celebrate Independence Day at the Allen City Park and Softball Field. Afternoon and evening activities will make you proud to be from Allen America!

Saturday, July 2 , will be the day to celebrate in Calvin. As always, the day begins at 10:00 a.m. with the parade, followed by the children’s games and turtle races. Activities will continue throughout the day.

The Allen Masonic Lodge will not be holding their monthly breakfast in July.

The Atwood School Reunion will be held Saturday, July 2 , from noon until 6:00 pm in the Lowell Wilkerson Community Building (next to the First Baptist Church) in Atwood. Their potluck dinner has been set for 4:30 pm, followed by a brief business meeting.

Seventy-four years ago on July 7, 1947, Rance and Alice Willis were married in Gainsville Texas. That love has grown and passed many tests through the years.

The Allen Board of Education took action Tuesday on a resolution providing for the issuance of General Obligation Bonds, and also hired a new high school principal.

After 40 years, Bill and Dayna Robinson have sold the Allen Advocate to their longtime friend and employee, Dianna Brannan. Cindy Davis and Dianna Brannan have been the backbone of this newspaper for many years and will continue to do a great job. Farewell comments on page 6.
