One Pharmacist’s View
The Holidays are Here
It was a cold November wind whistling across the South Canadian River this Thanksgiving morning as I crept out to fix and restock my bird feeder. Says a lot about my not so active wintertime sports status. Watching birds eat. But it was, after all, Thanksgiving Day and we did have a delicious turkey waiting on a bunch of Bullards to satisfy their appetites. Along with the mandatory dressings and fixings that go along with this great national holiday, I was pretty pleased with my prospects for a great Thanksgiving Day Feast.
I had my TV on so we could watch the Macy Thanksgiving Parade, sports and whatever other entertaining distractions we could dream up as the smell of nutmeg, sage and cooking permeated the air throughout our old house. A delicious feast for sure was in the making in our kitchen as Meegan, Ron and Pat rattled pots and pans. Sister Suzie Cook was soon to arrive and add her cheer to the house.
Meanwhile, I could not help but note that the world was still happening outside my traditional home in spite of me watching Macy’s parade. News clips made me aware that four Democrat senators and congresspeople had had their celebrations of Thanksgiving aborted when bomb threats were called in to their homes. Nothing like a bomb threat to hamper turkey preparation at Thanksgiving.
Not to be left out, the parade itself was having its own delays as Jew hating demonstrating Palestinian demonstrators broke the lines in front of old Snoopy (the balloon) sat down and halted the parade a few minutes. Outraged parade watchers hooted and booed the demonstrators and police rushed in and broke it up. The parade inched forward again as the Jew haters were rudely hustled off to a predestinated spot for parade interrupters.
TV viewers did not notice much interruption except it seemed sort of slow. The protesters intentions to totally halt the Ronnie McDonald balloon failed too as the protester’s chants “Don’t celebrate genocide” fell on deaf ears.
Later my TV reported that 208 million Americans were obese and/or overweight as I gleefully sawed into my turkey and interrupted the TV audio by asking for the delicious gravy to be passed to me. Our government’s efforts to sooth our Israeli allies and also mollify the Arabs while each do their best to kill off the other. But we can be sure of this. God is still supreme and He is in charge.
I hope your Holliday season is a happy time. A time for your family to
once again realize the reason for the season.
