MVSKOKGE Nation Tournament Starts Today

In whirlwind of games played Friday, Saturday and Tuesday the Allen basketball teams got some muchneeded games under belts. The girls started this week ranked 8th in Class A and the Allen men cracked the top 20 coming in at 18th Friday night’s games against Konawa both teams made a statement with big wins.

Allen girls used a 34-7 halftime lead to coast to the 88-12 win. On Senior night it was fitting that Stoney Cully and Kaylee Davis had big games for Allen. Cully had 18 points 2 assists, and 2 steals and Davis scored 11 with 3 assists and 4 steals. Addison Prentice led all scorers with 20 points connecting on 3 three-point shots and grabbed 7 rebounds. Cherish Woodward had 14 points and drug down 11 rebounds and eight steals. Kayla Nickell connected for 9 points 3 rebounds and 4 assists Kryslyn Stephens and Dextry Bowerman each scored 8 points.

The Allen men started a little slower but a strong second half gave them the 68-34 win. Gus Matthews muscled through for 20 points. Landin Tenequer added 18, Kamden Adams 13, Jake Matthews 5, Bodee Garrett 5, Kayd Bell, Grady Holder, Jax Watkins and Brax Wofford each added 2. A cold and snowy trip to Strother brought more of the same with the Allen teams picking up 2 more wins. Again, Cully had a strong game with 28 points and eight rebounds. Prentice added 13. Woodward 11, Stephens 11, Nickell 6, Bowerman 2 and Frederick 3.

The teams split against Vanoss (girls ranked 11 – boys ranked 5 In class 2A) on Tuesday girls winning 56-40 and the boys falling by 2 53-51 and now are in the tournament in Okmulgee. The bracket for the tournament is on page 7. The girls, the second seed, will face Wewoka at 12:20 and the boys will face Wewoka at 1:40. Finals are slated for Saturday.
